There are a lot of blogs out there that list out a whole bunch of things you need to know before you make that first phone call, and it can be overwhelming. Wedding Date

The first thing you need to know is your wedding date. This may seem like a no-brainer, but it's important to be aware of when your big day will be. Your florist will need to know this information in order to make sure your floral designer is available for your wedding date. So wait until you've confirmed your wedding date before you start inquiring.

Venue Location

This goes hand in hand with your wedding date, your venue space is just as important as your the date! Your florist will need to know what type of venue you are having your wedding at, in order to best recommend flowers that will look great in the space. For example, if you are getting married at a botanical garden, they may suggest using lots of lush greenery and floral arrangements. When your floral designer has an idea of what they can actually create for you, it allows for florist to provide a more precise estimate.

Budget

Even when someone says they don't have a budget, everyone has a number - (mind you this has only happened to me once or twice). Your budget is probably the most important thing to keep in mind when booking a wedding florist. It's not to say that you need to have an exact number in mind, but it's helpful for your florist if they have some sort of budget range. This will help them stay within your price range and give you recommendations on what flowers will be best suited for your wedding and desired budget.

You noticed none of the three things listed included colour palettes, flower types or floral terminology. Honestly, a floral designer doesn't care if you know the difference between a corsage or a boutonniere or if you misspell it. Please don't waste your precious time, researching all of the flowers and their seasonality - that's our job!

What you need to provide is the feel that you want for your wedding day, and some inspiration images if possible. Pinterest boards are always a great way to communicate this with your florist!

Keep these three things in mind when booking your wedding florist, and you'll be on your way to being stress-free and well on your way to beautiful flowers!
