5 Tips to Care for Dried Flowers

1. gently fluff + remove dust

   When dried flowers are shipped, they may come tightly packaged to protect the stems. It’s a good idea to gently fluff your dried arrangement when you take it out of the packaging, so it gains back some of it’s shape and bounce. Over time, your dried flowers will collect dust, so use your hair blow-dryer on it’s lowest setting, with no heat or you can even use a keyboard duster to gently blow away the dust.

2. Keep them out of direct sunlight

   When dried flowers are placed in the sun, the colours of the flower will start to fade. The sunlight causes your dried arrangements to dry up even more which makes them much more brittle and fragile.

3. place in a cool and dry area

   Whether it’s dried flowers in a vase, a bouquet or a dried flower install hanging on a wall, it need needs to be stored in a cool dry place. When it’s placed in a moist environment, like a bathroom or basement, it will encourage the dried flowers to grow mold and discolour. It could even cause the dried stems to soften and lose it’s shape.

4. use hairspray

   Dried flowers are fragile but other stems are more so than others. For example, dried lavender are gorgeous dried and still keep their beautiful scent, but it’s petals shed so easily. You could use specially made lacquer spray to keep them in tact, but a light mist of old fashion hair spray will keep your dried grasses from shedding.

5. Store Properly

   If you’re like me, you love to switch up your décor in your home or in your office. So when you’re changing things up, it’s best to store your dried flower arrangements in a box rather than in a plastic bag. Add in some cedar chips which will also prevent insects or moths from damaging your flowers.
